AWWA Inclusion Experts Series – 1st 2018

The first ever AIES was attended by over 600 people from the social service and education sectors.
The session opened with a speech by Guest-of-Honour, Associate Professor Mr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Education and Ministry of Social and Family Development and ended with a discussion led by a panel that comprised Kim Barthel, Dr. Joanna Tay-Lim, Lecturer, Early Childhood & Special Needs Education, National Institute of Education, and Ms Serene Peh – Director, Building Planning and Universal Design Department, Building and Construction Authority.
Keynote Speaker:
Kim Barthel, OTR is a world-renowned Occupational Therapist whose passion is to evolve the support for neurodiverse children globally. Kim supports teachers in being inclusive by evolving their pedagogy to adapt their environments, curriculum and relationships to meet the complex, varied needs of their students.
Topics of Discussion:
– Consideration of learner differences for all young children and students with various learning styles, including those with disabilities
– Curriculum design and activities which complement diverse classrooms
– Universally designed learning
– Strategies on helping each child achieve learning at optimal social, emotional, and cognitive states
