AWWA Inclusion Experts Series – 1st 2019

The second AIES was attended by over 400 people from the social service and education sector.
The session was graced by Mr Eugene Leong, then Chief Executive Officer, Early Childhood Development Agency. It ended with a poll pertaining to inclusion in education, and the findings were featured in an article in The Straits Times on 20 May 2019.
Keynote Speaker:
Dr Amelia Roberts is a Senior Teaching Fellow at UCL Institute of Education and Deputy Director of UCL Centre for Inclusive Education. She is the Research Engagement and Impact Lead for the Psychology and Human Development Department. Dr Roberts has a passion for research, curriculum design, and capability development of educational practitioners. Dr Roberts has contributed her views on media about Special Educational Needs (SEN) Policy, inclusion and Autism.
Topics of Discussion:
– Understand how Universal Design affects children and how this supports the concept of High Quality Teaching
– Recognise the common challenges that some children face, what these challenges might indicate, and how educators and practitioners can gain a greater understanding of a child’s needs=
– Introduction to tools and resources to measure individual children’s progress in emotional development and social skills
– Ways in which educators and practitioners can remove barriers to learning
